FREMO Module Meeting, Kolding (DK) 2010 -- Text and Photos
The annual FREMO Meeting 2010 took place in Kolding, at 08.-11. April 2010.
The Layout:
In the big hall was "H0 Europe" with HO, HOe and HOm.
In the second hall was European "N" scale, and "HO USA". HO USA got about 3.500 square feet.
It was great fun for all I spoke with. And for some, it was a little bit of a stress-fun-combination, as you will see looking at the photos:
Hall 2: N-scale on the left, and the big HO layout "USA" on the right.
Here you can download the track plan as pdf.
For this group: New way of operation:
When everything is set up, Welf begins the operations session with:
"In this meeting some things are completely new to many of us: we are working with "Track Warrant Control light" in one division, and "Track Warrant professional" on the other. We have two dispatchers, two different radio channels. We have much to keep in mind"!
While making the statement...
he gets standing attention...
sitting attention...
and maybe some unasked questions?
Many new things, which will be coming into effect in just a few minutes! We are handling trains, goods, passengers!
Seconds later, everyone wants to start. Danny got the job of "dispatcher light", while Thomas got the "dispatcher professional", using the Track Warrant Control system like americaN is using.
Thomas learned to know the americaN Track Warrant Control system at an americaN meeting, used it at his FREMO Southwest Division, and here you are.
The train crews were International at the best: we got people from Denmark (the host county), the Scandinavian countries Sweden and Norway (maybe even Finland, but I am not sure). And we got Dutch and Germans, and for some time we had an operator from England, too. Maybe I even forgot some country?
While the dispatchers tried to concentrate on their jobs, Carsten added some information. Did this help everyone? Or can there be some "information overflow"?
High noon at the dispatcher desk.
busy...
Danny offers the first job...
"I want to have the next train job!" "Oh, I want..." "Me toooooo...
What next ? ?? ???
Bart gets a train job...
and studies the information. The job description is in his left hand. Bart is just writing the Track Warrant in the form. The Track Warrant is dictated by the dispatcher via radio.
Let's take a walk around the layout.
We are starting at Seaport (see track plan above):
Next is Arnesburg:
After Arnesburg, ...
there is a bridge...
towards
the junction (the bridge can be seen looking back = upwards).
Moving in direction of Mainjunction, the next place of big interest is
the railfan park at the crossing of Maywood Junction.
What to expect next?
A stacker is approaching...
and blasting through...
Overview
One part of the crossing ends here
The tool to control the crossing.
And while I took this photo,
Bart Bakker took this one.
Next on our trip is Mainjunction":
East
Next comes
the container terminal Jackson
and then...
the car yard Titusville.
Butterfield junction, and at the end of this line is...
Darss Staging.
Let's look at another branch of this layout tree:
Dividing at Butterfield junction (see above), this branch is going to Three Oaks (Hull Oaks was in Harald's focus when building this branch, as you can see when coming to the end of this branch)
classification and storing yard for this branch, Fritzbee
including local industries
west end of yard
followed by smaller industries
in Harryville
same station, looking back from the west side
reaching the three oaks giving the module name "Three Oaks"
the mill, looking from the left
the modules are not ready yet. On the other hand, one can imagine what will be where.
End of this branch.
Somewhere on the layout, the operation is in full flow:
"Carsten, we have a question ..."
"What should be done?"
oh!
what a difference :-))
a little bit to the right: concentration
Happy train crew: "Yes, we can!"
Next branch: from Mainjunction to Larcar Steel:
Over the bridge (seen from above) and
from far away
Looking to the left from this standpoint, one can see
Rockville...
and a little bit later one arrives at Larcar Steel
End of this branch.
By the way: besides taking photos, I worked as a conductor and at other times as an engineer (not shown):
A Bart Bakker photo.
Back to the crossing: here, the branch to Eastend Yard staging begins:
running through a cut
Orange trees
the camp ground
to Simone
and
the tunnel to
Eastend staging
End of this branch.
And now to something completely different:
Thomas (left) set up some streetcar tracks, which are commercially available
Could this be something for "NAI" = North American Industries" - norm?
Perhaps you have the question how to transport modules? There are many possibilities. And here is the solution of Carsten:
